LED and High-Efficiency Lighting
We typically think of energy savings associated with big-ticket items. It’s easy to see how switching to a modern combined heat and power (CHP) system, or applying more precise controls to your boiler, can make a difference. But what about small changes? Can switching out a light bulb really save you that much?
Yes! Think about it: You’re not just replacing one bulb. There are likely hundreds or even thousands of lights in your building. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, widespread use of LED lighting has the potential to create greater energy savings than any other initiative in the United States. If the majority of lighting in the U.S. was switched to LEDs, we would save the energy equivalent of the output of 44 large electrical power plants by 2027.
Although you will realize substantial savings when you switch your building’s lighting to LEDs, many building owners and facility managers may be concerned about the initial cost. That’s why Con Edison is offering a wide range of rebates for installing LED lighting solutions.
Take a look around your building. Where do you use the most lighting? Interior lights, exterior lights, emergency lights, and signs? Are there lights you don’t need at all?
Con Edison has a detailed list of prescriptive rebates for LED and high-efficiency lighting solutions. If the type of lighting you are changing isn’t on the list, you may still qualify for custom incentives under the Con Edison C&I Program, paid at a rate of $0.16/kWh saved per year. You may even qualify for a rebate for removing unneeded lighting.
